Hypnotherapy for Pain Management in Coventry, Warwickshire and West Midlands
Pain is a useful warning sign from the brain, telling us that there is a problem with a particular part of the body and protecting us from further damage to that part. Acute pain often follows an injury or illness and can be severe, but relatively short-lived. Chronic pain persists for a much longer time, it can be mild, moderate or severe and the intensity of it can fluctuate so that at times there is no pain, but then it returns in another episode. Pain is a physical sensation, but it can be affected by certain psychological factors like memories of a previous experience of pain, tension, fear and low mood.
Clinical Hypnotherapy can help to reduce many types of pain, however it is essential that you have consulted your GP (or consultant, if you have one), that you have a diagnosis for the cause of your pain and that your doctor is happy for you to have this kind of therapy, before you proceed, as pain can be a warning of a more serious underlying condition. It can work well alongside any medication you are taking and, in some circumstances, can work as a stand-alone treatment.
Hypnotherapy can be effective for:
- When you are very sensitive to pain medication
- Back pain
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Phantom limb pain
- Pain related to illness such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), Fibromyalgia, Cancer
- Palliative Care
It aims to change your perception of the pain messages in your brain, in order to turn the severity dial down and to divert your attention away from the pain. Hypnotherapy is a lovely experience. I will help you to learn how to deeply relax your body and mind so that your unconscious mind can accept pre-agreed, positive suggestions that will help you manage your pain more effectively. I also use Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) to stop any unhelpful, negative thought patterns that may be contributing to your level of pain and I will teach you self-hypnosis so that you can continue to manage your pain yourself.
I work from home in the south of Coventry, which is also easily accessible from Warwickshire and the rest of the West Midlands. I have a comfortable, ground floor therapy room which allows me to give individualised therapy in a sensitive, professional and confidential way, using my years of experience as a Nurse and Nursing Sister – and my skills acquired as a Hypnotherapist. There is ample parking available.
